When is the last time you challenged yourself? I mean, REALLY challenged yourself?!

At our “Push Ups for Veterans” event on Saturday, I saw clients who NEVER would have thought they could do 30-40 push-ups in 90 seconds! One of our clients, Roz, ended up doing 3 rounds of push-ups for a total of 101 for the day!

Roz challenged herself to do something she never thought she could do. She did elevated, standing push-ups on a bar, however this was something that 6 months ago she may not have even attempted or thought she could do!

This reminded me of why it’s important to keep challenging ourselves, especially as none of us are getting any younger. Human beings thrive on challenge! It may be intimidating at first, but how amazing does it feel when you challenge yourself and push through something you never thought you could do?!

It doesn’t have to be running a marathon or starting a new business or skydiving, if you don’t want it to be. It can be something as simple as challenging yourself to eat more healthy greens, or to stop putting creamer in your coffee because of it’s health benefits, or challenging yourself to read 10 new books next year, or even walking an additional 5,000 steps a day!

What good comes out of staying inside your comfort zone? What does that really do for you?

I think of my Dad, who lived a life where he worked during the week, just to make it through to the weekends. He was just going through the motions. Then he found his passion, in home-brewing beer! It was something he truly looked forward to everyday, and he found that he was actually really good at it. He stepped outside of his comfort zone, left his comfortable job, and decided to open a brewery. We just celebrated his 2 year anniversary on Saturday! He takes pride in what he does now and he will never look back. Do you think it was scary to take that leap?! Absolutely! But he doesn’t regret it, even on the tough days.

Why should you challenge yourself?

– You can be an inspiration to others in your life

– You’ll have no regrets

– You’ll live life more vibrantly

– You’ll redefine yourself

– You’ll never wonder “what if?”

Since we are heading into a new year, this is the time when people start thinking of how they can make the new year the best year of their lives. They start thinking “what can be different this year?”or “what changes can I make to better myself?”

Maybe it’s hiring a Personal Trainer and getting healthier (hint hint!)? Or maybe it’s finding an accountability buddy to help you with your professional goals? Or maybe it’s planning to travel more or read more?

Whatever it is, I want to challenge you to challenge yourself! What’s that one thing that’s been holding you back? Or that one thing you’ve been putting off that it’s time to just step outside of your comfort zone and GO FOR IT!?

If there’s one thing you can get from this, it’s that you’ll never regret the things that you did to make yourself better; you’ll only regret what you didn’t do.
