The autumn flower of sun flare.

You’ve heard it before: “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, either way, you’re right” by Henry Ford. As cliche as it may sound, that timeless statement has proven to be true, time and time again. Your attitude determines how you will perform in any aspect in life. I don’t mean just the “I think I can, I think I can” attitude, but living it and exuding it on a day to day basis will truly impact your whole world.

One of my favorite quotes ever is by Charles R. Swindoll. He said:

“The longer I love, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company…a church….a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past…we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude…I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you…we are in charge of our attitudes.

Positive self-talk

– Positive self-talk doesn’t mean ignoring tough situations; it means approaching them in a more productive way. What are the conversations you have with yourself? If you wake up late in the morning, what is the first thing you say to yourself? “I’m such an idiot!” “I’m so dumb”, etc? Or do you recognize that you’re late and move forward, saying “I’m awesome, let’s attack the day!”? According to mayoclinic.com, research has proven that positive self-talk leads to the following health benefits:

  • Increased life span
  • Lower rates of depression
  • Lower levels of distress
  • Greater resistance to the common cold
  • Better psychological and physical well-being
  • Reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease
  • Better coping skills during hardships and times of stress

What can you do TODAY to be more aware of the way you think to yourself and react to situations?

Body language

– Attitude is not just something that happens in the mind- it HAS to involve your body language as well. For instance, if you’re feeling insecure, self-conscious or negative, what does your body tend to do? You tend to hunch your shoulders, cross your arms, and pretty much curl yourself into a ball. What happens when you stand up, open your arms, broaden your shoulders and lift your chin up? You naturally feel better and perk up!

– One of the best and most viewed TED Talks is about how “Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are”. It’s absolutely worth watching, check it out here!

Physical fitness

– When you work out, your body naturally releases endorphins, which triggers that “oh-so-good” feeling. When you feel good, you walk a little taller, you feel more confident, and you tend to be more conscious of the choices you make for your body. Imagine how much your self-esteem increases when you incorporate exercise into your daily routine?! It’s a proven stress reliever and confidence booster. If you’re not doing it already, NOW is the time to start! Our private and semi-private training groups are designed and lead by the best Personal Trainers in the area. We purposely hired trainers who have this “attitude” thing down and understand the importance of how a great attitude directly correlates with great results.

When it comes down to it, attitude is a choice. If you don’t feel like your attitude is where it needs to be, focus on making a conscious decision to change that TODAY. YOU DESERVE IT.
