3 DIET MYTHS- By Mandy Webb, KW Fitness

I grew up in the “diet” and “skinny is sexy” generation. I’ve always struggled with my weight and body image. In the past, I fluctuated with weight often because nothing I did was ever consistent. I tried “cleanses”, meal replacements, “detoxes”, low-carb, no-carb, etc.. whatever you name, I’ve probably tried it. The thing is, those fads actually WORK at first! Just like anything that sounds too good to be true, though, it will eventually catch up to you. It wasn’t until I married a health professional that I realized that everything I knew about diets was WRONG.

Think about it… if you go to buy a new or barely used car, do you want it to just work the first few months that you have it? Or do you want it to actually LAST? Obviously when we start a new “diet” or weight-loss plan, we want it to work. We have good intentions, but most of us don’t think long term enough to realize that these things aren’t sustainable.

At KW Fitness, our clients EAT!! Food is FUEL. When most people come to us initially, they either aren’t eating enough, they’re eating too much all at once, or they’re not eating at the right times of day.

Our MISSION is to educate our community. Our purpose is to teach health & fitness results that last a lifetime. In order for that to happen, people need to learn REALISTIC, maintainable HABITS. Once our clients get these habits down, it’s AMAZING to see the results and those habits spread to their friends and families. It’s never too early or too late to learn the right way to view FOOD- as a friend, not an enemy.

Here are 3 common diet/workout MYTHS:

  1. “If I workout, I can eat whatever I want”. 
    FALSE. Obviously, having a great workout program in place makes a BIG difference, however you CANNOT OUT-TRAIN A BAD DIET.
  2. “If I don’t eat a lot I’ll lose weight.”
    FALSE. If you don’t eat enough, your body won’t have the ENERGY to exercise. Your body will start burning lean mass instead of fat, because it won’t have enough fat to burn! It’s super important to make sure you’re getting enough protein, carbohydrates, and FATS.
  3. “If I do crunches, planks, buy an ab roller, etc. I will get a six pack.”
    FALSE!! The most effective way to get rid of belly fat is by eating the right way. My mom has always said “it’s all in the kitchen”. If there’s one thing our coaches hear ALL THE TIME, it’s “what exercise can I do to get rid of this (pointing to belly)?!”. There isn’t one single exercise that can target one single area!
